Happy Friday friends! Today’s post is slightly different to my usual posts, as I’ll be sharing with you my fitness/ workout routine and tips on how I stay motivated! It’s a long one so get comfy and grab a yummy beverage :) Let’s begin!
– M Y B A C K G R O U N D –
Working out / being active has always been a part of my life and I plan on keeping it that way! I ran cross country and track & field and also played basketball, elementary through high school. Running is still a huge part of my life, and although I’m no longer doing my 100m sprints, I love going on my runs. I started working out at the gym when I was 16 and I LOVE it! I always feel 100x better once I go, and it’s where I can clear my mind :)
– W O R K O U T R O U T I N E –
With my current work schedule, I only go to the gym about 2x per week, however I really want to be going 3x especially with summer right around the corner. For my routine, I run to and from the gym- about 30mins cardio, which is perfect as I don’t like doing cardio at the gym. Anyone else like that? Ideally I like working out for 1-1.5 hours, but sometimes I’m crunched for time and can only squeeze in a quick 30, but it’s better than nothing! For weights, I like doing a little bit of everything (full body) but will mostly target 2-3 body parts each session.
The first thing I usually do are exercises using dumbbells. I will rotate between different types of lunges and arm exercises. Some of them include…
- Reverse lunge
- Curtsey lunge
- Lunge with knee lift
- Overhead tricep extensions
- Tricep kickbacks
- Bent over row
- Front and side raises
- Bicep curls
- Shoulder press
- Reverse fly
- Dips (using bench)
Then I’ll move on to machines, where I do the…
- Ab Crunch Machine
- Hip Abductor/ Adductor (my fav!)
- Horizontal Leg Press
- Pull Down Machine
- Seated Shoulder Press
- Seated Rowing Machine
After machines, I’ll move on to squats with a barbell.
- Basic squats
- Squat pulses
- Sumo squats
- Crab squats (w/ a resistance band around my knees)
- Russian Kettle Bell Swing
- Jumping squats (w/ no weights but these are a killer!)
Legs and butt are my favourite thing to work out, so I will never go a workout without working these parts of my body! What’s yours?
To finish, I’ll grab a mat and do some butt and ab exercises then finish with stretching.

That wraps up some of my favourite exercises I do at the gym! Of course there are more that I do to switch up my routine, but that would be a very long post haha. Maybe one day I can do a video to show you everything- that would be much easier!!

– 7 T I P S T O S T A Y M O T I V A T E D –
OK, so how do I stay motivated to workout? Here are my 7 tips in no particular order!
#1. Follow fitness Instagram accounts. I love getting new workout ideas from watching 10 second video clips. Also, when you see a #goalsbod how can you not want to get your butt to the gym!
#2. Commit to a goal. Whether it be for a tropical vacation, or a wedding you’re attending this summer have something you can work towards. I know I’m more motivated to keep hitting the gym if I know I’m going to be wearing that body con dress or bikini. I’m going to want to look good and feel confident!
#3. Motivational quotes. Surround yourself with inspirational quotes. Ex.- Your phone’s lock screen, in your daily planner or even hanging on your walls. I have some mini posters in my room and it’s the first thing I see in the morning! HomeSense and Winners are great for these. You can always make your own DIY quotes too:)
#4. Have a good music playlist. When I have good workout music I want to workout! Always have a new favourite song on your phone/ iPod. I got VIEWS album on repeat! Anyone else w/ me?
#5. Take progress pictures. Although it may take weeks even months before you notice a difference in your body, once you start seeing results it is very motivating. Take pictures of yourself once a week, to track your progress. Trust me, once you notice that your hard work is paying off you’re going to be so proud of yourself and motivated to keep going. Just remember, it’s not going to happen over night so you have to be patient. Don’t give up!
#6. Reward yourself. Don’t forget to look back on what you have achieved along the way. Reward yourself with a new pair or shoes, or perhaps even a new bikini, now that you’re closer to or achieved the body you want!
#7. Buy some new workout gear. You’ll feel great if you’re loving what you’re wearing- confidence is key! You don’t have to spend a lot of $ on workout gear too. I like NIKE Outlet, Sports Check, VS, PINK, Forever21, Garage and of course Winners/ Marshalls for my affordable options.
Other tips include, telling your friends/ family about your plan, get a workout partner, change up your workout routine often or set a regular schedule. Remember everyone is different, so what motivates one person may not necessarily motivate you! Do some research, test out a couple and see what works for you!
Sometimes getting out of bed and taking your butt to the gym is the hardest part, but once you’re there I can promise you your’e going to be so happy!
