How To: Style a Poncho

Good morning! How’s everyone doing?:) I recently got together with my friend and former Client, Jade, for a mini shoot down by the water in Olympic Village. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we were loving the sunshine!

For today’s post I’m going to be talking about the super trendy Poncho! I’ve been wanting to dedicate a post solely to this trend for quite some time, as I’ve been seeing them left right and center since September! They are so cozy and feel like you’re wearing a blanket. AND they are socially acceptable to wear in public..it’s a win win in my opinion! They really are the perfect layering piece for Fall/ Winter. There are so many colours, prints and styles out there to match your personal style!

Dynamite Style Cream Aztec Poncho

Mine is an Open-Front Poncho, that can be styled by just draping it over your outfit. This is the best style of Poncho to show off what you’re wearing underneath. You could also belt it to accentuate your waist with either a thin or thick belt. Your choice! The key is to style it with something fitted underneath since the Poncho is already so loose. Leggings, skinny jeans or even a skirt with tights would be your best choice. You could do ankle booties or even some knee high boots. If you wear a lot of black (guilty*) go for a Poncho with some print or colour (or one with both!;)

If you’re worried about having to adjust your poncho throughout the day, or it slipping off your shoulders, make your life easier with the Pullover Poncho. It already comes with sleeves, and all you have to do is pull it over your head. The Turtleneck Poncho, that I mentioned in my ‘How To: Style a Turtleneck’  post is so adorable and chic- you really can’t go wrong! Just pair it with a long sleeve underneath to keep you extra warm this Winter!

Dynamite Style Aztec Poncho and zip long sleeve top

If you’re a shortie like me, and worried that the Poncho is going to drown you I have a small tip for you! Raise the Poncho from your shoulders forward and fold the excess fabric into a collar. It’ll look like it was meant to be a waterfall-style Poncho. By bringing the fabric to the front, it will make the back shorter, and all around look smaller. Plus, nobody will know you did this;)

Dynamite Style Aztec Poncho

I’m styling my Poncho from Dynamite with a maroon long sleeve and faux leather leggings. I love the aztec print and shades of cream and beige- it instantly lightens up my outfit :) Personally, a Poncho + felt or floppy hat = the ultimate combo..I’m obsessed! I think they compliment each other so well! I kept my accessories to a minimum with some simple gold bangles from Dyna! To complete the look, I went for dark red lips and nails to play in with my top :)

MAC Sin & VIVA III Lipstick

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! Hopefully you’ve been inspired to try out the Poncho :) Tomorrow is Black Friday, so perhaps you’ll find one you love at a great price! Can’t wait to talk to you in my next post..it’s going to be a big one! Plus there will be a GIVEAWAY!!;) Stay tuned for this weekend and have a wonderful day everyone!xx – Mitra
